UWA Partners with Rotary to Promote Conservation, Tourism

Signing of MOU between Rotary and  Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and the Rotary District 9200 comprising countries of Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Eretria and Ethiopia have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly carry out projects promoting wildlife conservation and tourism.

The memorandum was signed on Thursday April 21, 2011 on the sidelines of the 86th District conference and assembly at the Common Wealth

Resort, Munyonyo, Kampala. The signing which was witnessed by the Rotary International (RI) President Ray Klinginsmith and Uganda Prime Minister Professor Apollo Nsibambi, took place in the House of Friendship.

The Rotary District Governor (DG) Rotarian Stephen Mwanje signed on behalf of Rotary while UWA’s acting Executive Director,Dr. Andrew Seguya, signed on behalf of his organization. During the same event, the RI president named one of the mountain gorillas, Gorilla Rotary and urged the Rotarians to support this project by regularly visiting their gorilla friend as part of Rotary support towards endangered mountain gorilla conservation.

Dr. Seguya who announced his plans to join Rotary as a member, officially invited the RI President to visit the Uganda national parks and particularly Gorilla Rotary.
Under Project Safaris, Rotarians carry out various community projects among which will be the mountain gorilla and other wildlife conservation.
